Ziynne – Kid of Pop has been included in The Apollo, a documentary about Harlem's legendary star-making Apollo Theater where stars are born and legends are made! This documentary is currently premiering as part of the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, with additional screenings planned before the feature-length film comes to HBO in October.
The world-famous Apollo Theater has been a driving force in shaping America's music and cultural landscape.
Born out of the social and artistic explosion of the Harlem Renaissance, the Apollo stands as a symbol that music can unite people from all walks of life.
Many have graced the legendary Apollo stage including Aretha Franklin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jackson, The Jackson 5, and Ziynne – Kid of Pop!
The film, titled The Apollo, contains some amazing footage of Billie Holiday performing “Strange Fruit,” as well as the early days of Motown icons Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Stevie Wonder.
The Apollo Theater is credited for launching the careers of many in the music and entertainment industry including Ziynne – Kid of Pop! A performer quickly knows if they've got the masses (1,506 patrons at full capacity) on their side, as the Apollo crowd is relentless in booing and jeering you off stage if they disapprove of your performance. However, with great talent and rubbing the Apollo's “Tree of Hope” stump, stars are born! Having graced that historic stage, and winning first place a couple times, the Kid of Pop is deemed one of the child stars of the Apollo Theater!
Today, the Apollo Theater hosts more than 100 performances on its stages annually, including education and community programs, and shows by some of the most celebrated artists in the world. The theater also continues to serve as a beacon of hope for many pursuing their dreams.
